ABOUT

My name is Hannah Giacalone and I am a junior at Brigham Young University. Recently, after returning from 3 months in Ghana, I came up with an idea.

Think about how you got to where you are. Chances are you know how to read, you know about the world, and you have an education. Education gives us the tool to fulfill our potential. Being literate drives our work. I want to help children born without ready access to a first-world education achieve their dreams. I want these children to have the opportunity to learn to read and to learn about the world around them. Literacy automatically gives someone a step up in the working field. Then these workers  can provide an even better life for their children, and thus a snowball effect is started.

I am working with a team to design a line of children's books that improve literacy while giving the reader a cultural experience. When one book is sold, one is given to a child in need. These books [JP1] are not only for Africa and other underdeveloped countries, but also for developed countries because they still have children in need as well. I want to help all kids develop a love for learning, be able to learn English, and learn about other cultures.

I know that this can’t happen overnight, so I have a plan. I need help to print the first children's book that we have written, featuring  a young boy in New York City. Then through Kickstarter, I will raise money to print 250 books, go to Kenya to donate the books. While there I will be collecting data and making a short documentary. Eventually, my goal is to start a company that can distribute these books into books stores and to donate them to children throughout the world.

Let’s put a little more good in the world!
